Review Methodology
Our product guides are designed to help readers compare options for their pets, homes, and budgets. This page explains the standards used to prepare those guides.

Research and hands-on testing
Guides based on published information must be identified as research-based. A claim that we tested a product requires documented, hands-on evaluation. When testing is performed, the guide must explain the conditions, duration, and limits of that evaluation.
What we compare
Fit and function. Intended purpose, dimensions, compatibility, and suitability for the animal’s species, size, life stage, and habits.
Materials and upkeep. Construction, cleaning requirements, maintenance, and available evidence about durability. Durability should not be presented as proven without appropriate evidence.
Total cost and support. Purchase price, replacement parts, subscriptions or other recurring costs, warranty terms, return conditions, and manufacturer support.
Safety and limitations. Manufacturer warnings, relevant recall information, supervision requirements, and situations in which an option may be unsuitable.
How sources are used
Manufacturer and retailer documentation can establish stated specifications and purchase terms. Health-related claims require relevant veterinary or scientific support. Owner feedback can highlight recurring experiences or concerns, but individual reviews do not establish universal performance.
Each guide should explain its selection criteria and comparison scope. Important information gaps must be identified. Ratings and rankings must have a stated basis.
Recommendations and commercial relationships
Recommendations should explain who an option suits, its trade-offs, and whether a purchase is necessary. Affiliate commissions must not determine the outcome of a comparison. Relevant affiliate relationships, sponsorships, and free products must be disclosed alongside the recommendation.
Keeping guides current
Prices, availability, warranties, and return policies must be checked against current sources before publication. These details can change, so readers should confirm them with the seller before purchasing. Material changes or newly identified errors should prompt an update to the affected guide.
